I listen to a ton of podcasts. These are a bunch of my favorites.

I recommend listening to podcasts with the excellent Overcast app by Marco Arment. (Thank goodness for its Smart Speed feature. By stripping short silences, it’s saved me over 1000 hours of listening to nothing.)

Technology

Accidental Tech Podcast
Opinionated and in-depth commentary on Apple and its business by three indie developers.

AppStories
Come for the app and workflow coverage, stick around for the surprises.

Clockwise
Quick, round-robin conversations on four tech topics each week in less than 30 minutes. And blogging fodder for my Crashing Clockwise series.

Connected
Spirited, dare I say passionate, coverage of Apple news, but with all the japes. The funniest Apple-centered show I listened to.

Dithering
15 minutes of keen tech coverage by Ben Thompson and John Gruber twice a week.

Mac Power Users
Diving deep into using Apple devices to their fullest potential.

MacStories Unwind
Behind-the-scenes chat of MacStories, and media/relaxing recommendations by John Voorhess and Federico Viticci.

The Talk Show
No one can hold a 3-hour conversation like John Gruber, and his connections and insight into Apple are unparalleled.

Under the Radar
Ostensibly a guide for independent developers for developing for Apple’s platforms, but David Smith and Marco Arment are fun to listen to even if you’re not a developer.

Upgrade
If you can only get your Apple analysis from one podcast, it should be from Jason Snell and Myke Hurley. Jason’s position in the industry is second to none, and Myke complements his style in the best way. They’re always trying new things, and their competitive drafts are entertaining.

Comedy

All Consuming
A new direct-to-consumer product review each week with Adam Lisagor and Noah Kalina. The best conversations.

Do By Friday
Weekly brain dump with Merlin Mann and Alex Cox. Sometimes they even talk about the challenge!

The McElroy Brothers Will Be in Trolls World Tour
Can the McElroy brothers manifest themselves into a feature-length Trolls movie with only a podcast? I guess you’ll find out.

Top Four
Ranking things (hilariously) with Tiff and Marco Arment. The podcast I hope to make with my own wife someday.

My Brother, My Brother, and Me
“An advice show for the modren era. The McElroy brothers are here to take your questions and turn them, alchemy-like, into wisdom.” The imagination these guys have is unreal.

You Look Nice Today
This show walked so MBMBAM could run. With Merlin Mann, Adam Lisagor, and Scott Simpson.

Current Events

Apple News Today
It gets me up-to-speed on events around the world without undue drama and in about 10 minutes each weekday.

The Good News Podcast
Current events news doesn’t always leave me feeling optimistic, so I follow it up with this show, which is only and always good things happening in the world.

And the Rest

Analog(ue)
If you like listening two friends talk to each other about their lives, I have good news for you.

Cortex
Mostly CGP Grey and Myke Hurley talking about to they stay productive with their technology, but also kind of a behind-the-scenes of their businesses.

The Dirtbag Diaries
Stories told by and about outdoor dreamers, dirtbags, and athletes.

Enthusiast!
Short and sweet stories told by people who are, well, enthusiastic about a niche thing.

Reconcilable Differences
The two intense personalities of Merlin Mann and John Siracusa come together to discuss what makes them tick.

The Distance
How to stay in business for the long run.

Thoroughly Considered
Tom and Dan of Studio Neat discuss with Myke Hurley how they make decisions, evaluate product designs, and bring their creations to life.

Two-Headed Girl
Alex and Matt Cox discuss the realities of being trans and queer in the world today.

Strong Songs
You don’t have to be a music theorist to appreciate the analysis brought to each song breakdown here.

Ungeniused
Stephen Hackett and Myke Hurley find the weirdest things on Wikipedia to explore.

The Zane Lowe Interview Series
Zane Lowe has a special talent for talking to musical artists about their craft.

99% Invisible
What goes into great design of objects, buildings, and cities? Roman Mars and Co will blow your mind.
